Bridge History
Built in 1893, this 330-foot long truss bridge spanned the American River at Lake Natoma in Folsom, California, until 1931. At that time, it was dismantled and rebuilt across the Klamath River in Siskiyou County, California.
In 1998, the bridge was disassembled and returned to Folsom and in 1999, Rigging International reassembled the bridge and launched it across Lake Natoma, where it carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Description of RI's Work
Rigging International worked as a subcontractor to Younger General Contractors. RI designed the method to launch the 330-foot reassembled bridge across the lake. This was accomplished by modifying RI's slide shoe system and using a 140-foot tower to support the bridge during this operation. The launching operation took less than eight (8) hours. The Folsom Historic Truss Bridge once again rests on its original abutments and spans Lake Natoma.
